We are really excited to have the opporunity to speak with this special "Modern Muse" - artist, Amanda Galal.
Hello Amanda- let's start.
Where are you right now?
I just moved to Amsterdam working remotely as an Art Director but also pursuing my dream of becoming an even more successful Artist & Designer. Amsterdam feels like the right place to be doing that right now.
How would you describe a good day for yourself?
A good day would compile a series of things and me managing to accomplish them. They are tough to achieve as I am someone with an overloaded schedule. So that would include a quick work out in the morning (big struggle), jumping onto some calls, finishing off my freelance design tasks, talking to my loved ones, cooking, coming up with new themes for my art or painting in the evenings, drinks with a couple of friends or a night out with my partner, and then back to painting late at night – I am quite a night owl.
What brings you inspiration?
I always focused on Greek & Egyptian mythology, because I found it fascinating, interesting and I always tried to twist it around aesthetically by using surreal figures and elements. Modernizing it quite a lot and giving it my own interpretation. But lately I’ve been drifting off onto a new approach, and that is self-reflection and the context around me. I am triggered by the exploration of universal aspects of the human condition, whether it revolves around an emotion, a situation, a health condition, or a big moment in one’s life. We need to focus on those moments, my way is by visualizing some of them.
Which part of your job is your favourite?
A job isn’t a job if you enjoy doing it. So, my favorite part is all of it because I don’t have to do it, I want to do it.
What colour describes you best?
White. It is the only color you can turn into any color. Then again it isn’t considered a color, it is the absence of color. So turquoise. All shades of it. Yep, turquoise.
Are you in love?
Totally. I have the best partner; I am so lucky and blessed. I have the coolest job, the most supportive family, and loyal friends. I love it all.
What are you working on at the moment?
It is one of those rare times where I need to take some things off my plate. I’m juggling being a graphic designer then an illustrator and then an artist and its back and forth, back and forth, like clockwork. I am literally working on everything right now. Including a new art collection, new illustrations, new clients, new designs.
How do you define success?
Managing to get out of bed in the morning. You do that, you have won the day.
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Empathetic, tough, ambitious
Modern Muses that inspire you and why?
Hardworking Muses inspire me. The ones that manage it all, that have a vision, that don’t give up and keep fighting for what’s right and what’s theirs. But also the ones that are kind and have compassion. I have the greatest examples of women, my mum and my grandma.
Thank you very much Amanda - I am a huge fan of your art and the way you see life is very inspiring. You truly are a Mondern Muse. Wish you all the very best on your next steps in Amsterdam.
Thank you, Eleni Simoni
