We are really excited to have the opporunity to speak with this special "Modern Muse" - Art Historian, Writer, Curator and podcast host Alexandra Steinacker Clark.
Hello Alexandra- let's start.
_______________________
Where are you right now?
Geographically? London. In my career? In the beginning stages and trying to grow exponentially!
How would you describe a good day for yourself?
Waking up after a good night’s sleep, I think that’s so important and not to be underestimated. Then, exercise and breakfast, coffee is a must (oat milk latte or sometimes even with matcha), a full day of productive work in the arts, then dinner and time with friends, colleagues, or my partner. Maybe, if there’s time, I will also be able to squeeze in some reading!
What brings you inspiration?
Professionals who are incredible at what they do – being around the people I really look up to and seeing their passion fills me with such drive, be it artists who create amazing works, authors who write phenomenal articles/books, or women that are making waves in the arts or any other sector for that matter. Setting an example is one of the most important things you can do for the people around you, and I really believe that we are incredibly impacted by those around us so I try to surround myself with people who I find amazing.
Do you like your job?
Yes, very much so. I have multiple jobs, one of them as a full-time Studio Manager at an artist’s studio and there I’m learning an incredible amount, but I also love the freelance work I do as a curator, writer and podcast host.
What colour describes you best?
Hmmm… I’d say green. It’s my favorite, I find it’s a color that can be fun but also fit to a grungy vibe, while being able to be incredibly elegant, too.
Are you in love?
Yes – with myself, with my career, and as a matter of fact I am romantically in love as well, which is something that doesn’t happen too often for me, so that’s nice.
What are you working on at the moment?
A few things simultaneously, but my passion project is the All About Art Podcast. I’m currently working on growing and developing it further through having AMAZING guests on, as well as thinking about expanding it through collabs, events, and other cool things!
How do you define success?
I think when you wake up most days and are happy to be doing the job you’re doing, that’s what success feels like. You spend more time working than doing anything else, so I consider it a major success in life to be loving it. Moments of success also manifest through milestones, like when I collaborate with an amazing person or company, or when I reach a certain number of listens on the podcast, these are more measurable things that feel like success to me, too. I also think a part of success for me personally is knowing I make a positive impact on people as well as the sector I’m passionate about.
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Strong, Fiery, Passionate
Modern Muses that inspire you and why?
Art historian Katy Hessel for building an amazing career at a young age with a great podcast bringing art closer to people through a feminist lens. Founder of MTArt Agency Marine Tanguy for being a disrupter of the arts industry as well as a mentor who pushes the ladder downwards for newcomers in the sector she believes in (which is something she has very much done with me) Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie who has written books that have changed my perspective on feminism, culture and life in general as well as my mother, who has shown me what real strength and respect looks like.
